Snappy Runners are the most fun way to start the weekend: a free-to-join, no ego, slow and social crew that turns Saturday mornings into a feel good ritual. Born out of a desire to connect with fellow runners, Snappy Runners has grown from 20 runners on its first outing to a thriving and supportive community. Like clockwork, Snappy Runners meets every Saturday at 9:30am in Cutting Room Square, Ancoats, setting off together for a leisurely 5km loop around the city complete with photo stops.
The club was started by Charlie Watts, a local documentary filmmaker and photographer who fell in love with running during lockdown and wanted to share both the physical and mental benefits with others. Charlie’s approach was simple – let’s run slowly, take photos, share stories, and experience Manchester together rather than racing against the clock.
The word “Snappy” comes from the camera-first, photo-friendly approach: similar to Joy Runs, runners are encouraged to bring their phones and cameras along. It’s common to see runners stopping to snap pics of the city, each other, or the group mid-run – a reminder that runs are as much about the story as the steps.
Routes are more takeovers. Tearing up the streets of Ancoats, New Islington and the city centre, helping you to discover more corners of Manchester on fast forward.
Inclusivity is the beating heart of Snappy Runners. First-timers, returning runners, seasoned regulars – everyone runs the same loop, supports one another, and leaves feeling part of something. The vibe is upbeat, open and unpretentious, with plenty of encouragement and zero pressure.
☕ Post-Run Coffee, Cake & Catch-Ups
The run doesn’t end at 5km. Ancoats is blessed with beautiful bakeries and coffee shops for the post-run hangout. The community is bursting with kind souls and fellow fitness lovers happy to exchange stories and numbers.
🎉 Fun Beyond The Weekly Run
Snappy Runners also show up beyond Saturdays. From brand collaborations – including recent Adidas events with DJs, free pizza, drinks and giveaways – to city-wide collabs like RUN YOUR CITY, and cheer-station appearances at the Manchester Marathon, their supportive energy travels wherever their legs take them.
