Miles & Smiles RC started with a few friends looking for people to run with. Turns out, plenty of Halesowen felt the same way.
Established in early 2026, there was no grand launch or masterplan. A group of mates simply started meeting twice a week, getting some miles in and enjoying each other’s company. Those runs became a habit, the crew grew, and before they knew it Miles & Smiles had become a proper little running community.
That simple formula still works: run somewhere nice, look after each other and have a good time doing it.
Every Wednesday at 7pm and Sunday at 9am, the crew meets at The Foxhunt in Halesowen, mixing up 5-10km outings around Ridgeacre, Halesowen and nearby green spaces.
Treating the West Midlands as their playground, they cover all terrains – roads, parks, forest paths and trails.
Perhaps the best expression of the Miles & Smiles ethos is their monthly Miles & Smiles On Tour.
Rather than endlessly repeating the same local loop, the crew periodically packs its running shoes and heads elsewhere, exploring routes in neighbouring towns and different corners of the local area together.
It’s a simple idea, but a brilliant one: your run club becomes a passport to places you might never have thought to run yourself.
That spirit carries into the rest of their calendar too. Expect parkrun meet-ups, local races, seasonal and themed runs, plus plenty of opportunities to swap an ordinary Sunday loop for something different.
Miles & Smiles is proudly an all-abilities club, but social doesn’t mean nobody has goals.
You’ll find people progressing towards race days alongside zero-pressure runners. When members enter events, the club turns up in support – bringing familiar faces and the reassurance that you won’t necessarily be heading to the start line alone.
There’s no tension between the two. Whether you want to get faster, go further or simply feel better after a run, Miles & Smiles has you covered.
Ask the club what puts the joy into its running and there’s no talk of PBs, medals or Strava segments.
They point to the feeling of freedom, the lift in energy and mood – and, above everything else, the people.
That’s probably why a running group started casually between friends has caught on.
Shared miles. New places. More reasons to smile.
