Rise and shine Chapel Allerton. Now a local ritual, the Early Bird Run Crew set off at 6am for some pre-sunrise miles.
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, outside Caffè Nero on Stainbeck Lane, head torches flicker on, sleepy hellos are exchanged, and before the group of runners hit the streets before the city really stirs.
The route is a 5km loop, moving through Chapel Allerton’s neighbourhood streets and leafy corners.
Speed isn’t everything. Early Bird Run Crew prefer a steady, more conversational pace with the mental health benefits of running key to their mission. Early Bird Chapel Allerton is for anyone who prefers community over competition. Crew before cadence. As one member puts it: “There’s always someone to keep me company, no matter how slow I run.” First-timers, gentle runners, people coming back from injury – everyone is folded in without fuss.
So, if you’re an early riser, why not start your day on the best foot. A sense that you’ve earned your day before most have even rolled out of bed. And when the run ends, the Early Bird Run Crew often lingers outside the café, warming hands on takeaway cups, swapping plans for the day ahead.
