Abbey Runners: Leeds’ Club for Every Kind of Runner

Community 💛Fell ⛰️Trails 🌳

Abbey Runners aren’t just another Leeds club – they’re a running collective celebrating running in all its forms. Road, trail, fell, cross-country, even triathlon – they do it all, and they do it with an openness that’s made them a mainstay of the city’s running scene since 1982.

Every Tuesday at 6:50pm, runners meet at Holt Park Active for their main club night, splitting into pace and distance groups that range from steady 5kms to longer, faster routes across North and West Leeds. Sessions often head into the Meanwood Valley Trail, Eccup Reservoir, or up towards Otley Chevin, mixing city energy with Yorkshire grit.

Abbey’s magic is in its diversity. You’ll find marathoners rubbing shoulders with new Couch-to-5km graduates, trail purists comparing mud stories with road racers chasing PBs. The common thread? A shared belief that running’s beauty is its possibility – the variety, seasons, social, and serious at times. A more sustainable way to approach running.

They’re also proudly local – hosting the Abbey Dash warm-ups, Abbey Anniversary Run, and supporting the Meanwood Valley Trail Race, which channels funds back into the community. It’s a club with roots and reach, pairing competitive spirit with a genuinely supportive culture.

Socials are a big part too – pub nights, awards dinners, and summer BBQs that turn the club calendar into something more than mileage.

In their own words: “We run in all weathers, across all terrain – and everyone’s welcome to join the adventure.”

If you’re looking for a club that lets you try it all, Abbey Runners is Leeds’ most versatile crew.
